Main Community

For such a small area, Main has quite a wide vary of attractions. It begins at 16th Avenue, heading down south to 41st Avenue, and from Ontario Street, east to Prince Edward. Although the community of Main is small, it has much to offer to its residents. Housing ranges from miniature estates around Queen Elizabeth Park to the very modest bungalows of Main Street. To the North of King Edward a group of older homes built in Edwardian and craftsman style add character and warmth to the neighbourhood.

MAIN HISTORY

Because of their close location to Fraser and Knight, these communities were like family growing together. Pioneers made trails at the bottom of Little Mountain for easy access, and they also logged the mountain for their advantage. Soon enough, in the early 1900’s people were moving to the area and a small community had begun to grow on upper Main Street. By 1991, Main was developing so well that the area built its very first post office, as well as a number of shops that covered Main Street. In 1940, the mountain with a view that everybody enjoyed was renamed as Queen Elizabeth Park. It had now become a beautiful community centre and park for all residents to enjoy. The area developed into a network of neighbourhoods with houses crowded onto small lots.
