RENFREW HISTORY
Renfrew’s history is very similar to its neighbouring community of East Hastings. This community was named after a visit to the area from Admiral George Fowler Hastings and as this community grew, it laid claim to not only the first road in Vancouver but also the first, hotel, post office, telephone, subdivision and the first ferry. Due to pressure from local residents who were looking for more interesting activities, the first exhibition was created in 1910, which is today known as the Pacific National Exhibition. In 1944 an agreement was signed by the city and the province to establish the Exhibition and site was owned by the city. 1911 was the year that this township joined the City of Vancouver.
